Unrefined batana oil, pressed from the fruit of the Elaeis oleifera palm in La Moskitia, Honduras. One ingredient, nothing added. Solid and slightly grainy when cool, melts to a rich oil in your hands, and smells earthy and faintly smoky, closer to coffee than to perfume.

  • 100 percent unrefined batana oil, no additives or dilution
  • Rich in oleic and linoleic fatty acids
  • For scalp, lengths, ends, edges, and beard
  • Leave in, overnight mask, or 40 minute pre wash treatment
  • 3 to 5 times a week

It will arrive liquid in Lebanese summer. Batana melts above about 25°C and our summers are well past that. Liquid oil is not a fault and not a sign of dilution. Put the jar in the fridge for a few hours and it sets again.

A conditioning hair and scalp oil. It softens, adds shine, and reduces the look of breakage. It is not a treatment for hair loss. If you are losing hair, a dermatologist can tell you why.

Unrefined Batana Oil

Most hair oil is mostly not hair oil.

Turn the bottle over and the first ingredient is silicone or mineral oil, with the thing on the label sitting near the bottom of the list. It coats the strand, looks glossy for a day, and washes out. There is another way.

The oil

One ingredient, pressed at origin.

Batana comes from the fruit of the Elaeis oleifera palm, extracted by hand in La Moskitia in Honduras the way it has been for generations. It is thick, deeply coloured, and high in oleic and linoleic fatty acids, which is why it behaves more like a conditioning treatment than a finishing oil. Nothing is added to it and nothing is refined out.

Questions

Will this regrow my hair?
No. It conditions the scalp and the hair, which makes hair look thicker and break less. That is not the same as regrowing it. If you are losing hair, see a dermatologist and find out the cause, because the causes have different treatments.
Mine arrived liquid, is it fake?
No. Batana melts above about 25C and Beirut is above that for months. Refrigerate the jar for a few hours and it sets. Melting is actually a sign it is unrefined and undiluted.
What does it smell like?
Earthy and smoky, like coffee or popcorn. It is a strong natural scent and not everyone likes it. There is no fragrance added to cover it.
Will it make my hair greasy?
It is a heavy oil, so yes if you use too much. Fine hair does better with the pre wash method. Thick, curly, and coily hair can usually wear it as a leave in.
Can I use it on my beard?
Yes. Beard and edges are two of the most common uses.
Is it safe on a sensitive scalp?
It is a single unrefined plant oil with nothing added, which suits most people. Patch test on the inner arm first if your skin reacts easily.
How long does a jar last?
Used 3 to 5 times a week, roughly a month per jar depending on hair length and how heavy handed you are.
Do you ship outside Lebanon?
Not yet. We ship within Lebanon for $3 flat, cash on delivery.
