A back-clip harness gives your dog something to pull against.

Sled dogs wear back attachments for a reason. Clip the lead behind the shoulders and every ounce of forward force goes straight into the harness, which is exactly what you did not want. Meanwhile a collar puts all of that pressure on the throat. There is another way.

The design

Clip at the chest, and pulling turns them sideways.

A D-ring on the chest means forward momentum gets redirected across the body rather than resisted head on. The dog turns gently back toward you instead of driving ahead, with no choking and no yanking. A second ring on the back gives you a normal harness for relaxed walks once they are walking well.

Questions

Will this stop my dog pulling completely?

It makes pulling much harder and most owners notice a difference on the first walk. It will not train your dog for you. It is a tool that makes walks manageable enough that training becomes possible.

My dog is very strong. Will it hold?

It has reinforced stitching, metal D-rings, and a one-click buckle, and it works by redirecting force rather than resisting it. With a large powerful dog, check the stitching and hardware regularly the way you would with any harness.

How do I choose a size?

Measure the chest at the widest point behind the front legs and use the table. Size up if you are between sizes or your dog has a thick coat.

Will it rub under the legs?

The straps sit flat and the nylon is soft, but any harness rubs if it is fitted too tight. Two fingers under each strap is the check.

My dog hates things going over their head.

They step into it and the buckles click at the side, so nothing goes over the head. If your dog is gear-shy, leave it near their bed with treats on it for a day first.

Is it good for flat-faced breeds?

Yes, and it is one of the better options for them, since a harness keeps pressure off the throat entirely. Pugs, Frenchies, and Boston Terriers do well in a front-clip harness.
